Mehrner Heilwasser from Brixlegg: The "NOTHELFER-WATER" for over 750 years

A healing spring has been known in Mehrn for centuries. This mineral healing spring, which today gives the Mehrner healing water its justification, is brought into close connection with the St. Bartholomew's Church in Mehrn because of its origin.

Refreshingly steeped in tradition: our "Nothelfer water"

According to an oral message, the history of the healing spring goes back to pre-Christian times and it was used as a spring sanctuary for worship, on which the first church was built in 1111. The healing water was first mentioned in writing in 1267. A source from which clear, rich, tasty water with a special content gushes out.

The newly built church is consecrated in 1698 in honor of St. Bartholomew, the 14 Holy Helpers gain great devotion as secondary patrons, and the spring becomes known as the “Fourteen Holy Helpers Water”.

A fascinating source of eventful history

At the beginning of the 19th century, the church felt compelled to sink the water by order of a higher order due to the hopeless activity of taking water from a sacred place - behind the altar. The healing water subsequently found a new outlet at the foot of the church hill.

Around 1863 the source was rediscovered during excavation work. Some positive experiences are reported from around 1878 and the reputation as a fountain of health is becoming increasingly popular.
